Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Soteria120 FAQ page, where we provide detailed answers to your most pressing questions about our platform and the advanced educational theories that drive its design. Whether you’re a new user or looking to deepen your understanding of our features, you’ll find valuable insights into how Soteria120 enhances learning experiences through innovative functionality and scientifically-backed methodologies. Explore below to learn more about how our platform works and how it can significantly improve your mastery and retention of key knowledge areas.
Functionality
Yes, you can direct your own learning in 2 ways: you can navigate directly to your personal dashboard by opening the app directly or selecting the dashboard option after completing a Master Moment. From the dashboard, you can review the Knowledge Cards for each module, topic, or concept by clicking the “more info” icon (see the user guide for more info) or click the play triangle at on any item to do some activities that come only from that area.
You can access the app either from a web browser or by downloading the Ottolearn App from the either the App Store or Google Play store. See the User Guide for more info. Please note that there is a different web address (if you’re using a browser) or Keyword (if you’re using the mobile app) depending on whether you have a paid subscription or are using the free demo.
The app is working as intended. The Soteria120 program is meant to be used for 2 minutes a day. You can choose to do a few extra Mastery Moments, or self-directed learning in a day, say, 10 minutes, but there is a limit to how much progress it will track in a single 24-hour period.
Your brain actually needs you to sleep in between learning sessions to consolidate what you’ve learned from short-term memory into long-term memory. It also needs repetition to help identify what information to retain and what to let go. So the platform won’t let you reach Mastery of a concept in a single day. Depending on what targets have been set for that concept, you will need 3-5 days of correct answers to reach Mastery of a concept.
Repetition is built into the platform on purpose. Your brain uses repetition as an indicator of what information is worth remembering, so we need to show you the same questions multiple times to really drill them in. As you move from learning the information to maintaining your mastery of it, every question will be familiar. If you have reached mastery and would like to suggest additional activities to add, use the feedback tool to share your input with us!
Your feedback goes directly to our development team and is tagged to the specific question you sent it from. They will take action based on your comment, either requesting a clarification or adjusting the activity accordingly. As soon as the question is edited and published it is updated in every user’s app. Your feedback has an immediate impact on the user experience of every participant in that program! We will send you a personal message describing the action taken.
Click “Reset Password” from the login page. If that doesn’t work, email [email protected] for support.
You can use either one or both interchangeably. The only difference is that if you log in for the first time on the computer you will receive email notifications to complete your activities; but if you log in via the app first you will receive notification on your phone. If you block notifications or your email client thinks the reminder emails are junk because you never open them you won’t be able to use the program the way it is intended.
The Mastery Moment function pulls activities from all profiles assigned to you. You have been assigned multiple Mastery Profiles, either by the request of your supervisor or by mistake. Use the feedback tool or send us a note and we can deactivate one for you. You can also select areas to practice directly from the Home Screen to practice specific subjects.
Knowledge Cards contain extra information, media, and summaries of the information contained in the sections below them in the knowledge hierarchy. Modules, Topics, and Concepts can all have Knowledge Cards attached to them. You can access the knowledge card from the Module, Topic, or Concept screen by clicking on the Knowledge Card tab or the page icon on the right hand side of the list on the screen. Knowledge cards are a good way to learn or review content without doing activities.
Ottolearn is the agile microlearning platform that we have partnered with to deliver our programs. It is just one component of the products and services we offer. They are absolutely awesome, and we wouldn’t be here without their effort!
We are independent companies. We use their platform to create and house our content, collect and analyze user data, and deliver some of our basic reports.
Learning Theory
You will see the most benefit if you use the program every day, and the benefit will decrease if you don’t use it consistently. Because the program presents different activities to you each day, each day you miss weakens your retention of the information you’re learning. If you miss a day, the best way to recover is to get back into the habit of consistent use.
To make up for a missed day you may want to do a couple of extra mastery moments, but that’s not necessary. In fact, we don’t encourage users to cram a bunch of activities in one day because that makes it harder to form a consistent 2-minute/day habit.
The learn-then-do sequence of learning depends on your ability to retain and apply the information you learn. We know from experience and science that you only retain about 15% of the information you learn that way. We’re taking advantage of the way you actually learn to ensure that you don’t just retain information better, you can actually master it. Give this a try and see for yourself!
Yes, approximately. There are many studies that have looked at this, and while the methodologies and specific results disagree, they are point to the fact that we retain very little of what we actually learn in “class,” whether in a real or virtual classroom, or through online eLearning. In many cases 15% would be very optimistic .
The Soteria120 system delivers training in a totally different way than most new users expect. The closest analog we often hear our clients mention is that this works more like language apps like Duolingo, Drops, or Rosetta Stone. That’s partly accurate: it’s definitely more like those than classroom learning, or conventional eLearning.
These traditional learning methods are more passive than our model. There is content that can be consumed passively in our system: see the Knowledge Cards accessible from the app dashboard. But even they are not intended to mimic the courses you’re used to.
Our continuous learning model challenges users with new questions and new information every day. In our model, not knowing the answer to a question isn’t a failure, its an opportunity to learn—and guess what? Everyone starts there!
